A chronicle of the diverse lives of characters in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Episodes draw from events in headlines—a subway pushing, a racially charged killing by NYPD—as a central inciting incident that, woven throughout the story, propels the protagonist and an ensemble cast into worlds of conflict within themselves and their neighborhood. The series focus is a 33 year-old single woman and her struggles to balance unkind social realities against personal realities of heartbreak, rejection, love, sex and death.
A hard-hitting dramatic series in the tradition of The Sopranos, Oz, and Law & Order: SVU.
Set in the wartime 40s, a wizened Brooklyn reporter, ANNIE O’HARA (33), is the only female covering the homicide beat for the AP and The Brooklyn Daily. She’s a tough-as-nails reporter, working alongside men covering the days’ gruesome crimes, hardcore criminals and political corruption. She is trusted by the mob, envied by the cops, and more than a good friend to the local bars. She’s also had a lover or three and a reputation to go with it. This series uncovers the hard, scabby underbelly of a reporter’s life.
The Waltons, and Little House on the Prairie. It has the family elements seen in The Sound of Music. It’s based on the true stories of the Meza’s, an immigrant Mexican family coping in the border town of San Diego during World War II. It’s associated with the film LA CHIVA, a short by Akiva Peñaloza. Set in the wartime 40s, GLORIA MEZA, a charming 11 year old, is one of seven sisters and 2 brothers. She’s an observant, feisty little girl, managing the trials and triumphs of a family beset by poverty living in English speaking America. She is admired by her sisters, considerate, playful, and opinionated. She’s had her share of loss and grief, but always rises to the challenge to make the best of her circumstances. Barrio is set to play in either English or Spanish, depending on the market.
